Talktime | Tiger Shroff

His claim to fame has been his best male debut with Heropanti. And now, 27-year-old Shroff is all set to play Munna Michael, a tribute to Michael Jackson. He talks to Sangeeta Yadav about his experience

How was it to work in Munna MichaelIJ

It was amazing. This film is very special to me because it had all the major teams I enjoy working with. This movie is also a small tribute to Michael Jackson. It is a family entertainer and a great film for the masses.

Can you share some anecdotesIJ

Sharing screen space with Nawazuddin Siddiqui was the best part of the movie. learning so much from the man himself and also trying to teach him how to dance was cool. The funny thing is, he could not fathom easy steps but would easily fathom difficult steps. I don’t understand how.

The songs too are special and each one of them is different. Ding Dang, a Bollywood masala number, is beautifully choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. When he shot the love song Pyar Ho in Jordon, it was freezing but it was a beautiful experience. It was fun shooting for dance numbers.

Was there any scene that required maximum retakesIJ

The shooting of the film was smooth except for the shoot for the song in which I had a solo dance section which I could get right in 30 takes because it was shot in a special camera that replicates many Tiger Shroffs. I had to dance with the same energy and move on the stage in 30 different areas.

Did you not get tired doing it 30 timesIJ

After I finished shooting that day, I puked and in one day I had lost 5 litres of water from my body.

How do you prepare for such intense  dance shootsIJ

I am passionate about dancing and rehearsals. So, I don’t take it as a preparation. I take it as something that I enjoy, so it comes naturally to me.

Anything you did for the first time in this movie as an actorIJ

To be Munna Michael, a Mumbaikar road romeo flaunting himself everywhere, was something is very different from what I have done earlier.

The character belongs from Teen Batti Chawl. Your father Jackie Shroff was from there. Any memoriesIJ

I remember my father’s chawl. When I was a kid, he took me to show his chawl and its size was like a dining table which covered everything — kitchen, bed, bathroom, everything cramped up in one room.

This is your third movie with director Sabbir Khan after Heropanti and Baaghi. How is the bondingIJ

I have so much respect for him because whatever little I have achieved so far is because of him and Sajid Nadiadwala taking care of me. I could not have asked for anything better. They are professional, hard working, goal-oriented and passionate about work.

You are famous for action sequences and dancing...

In such a short time, I have created some sort of an identity for myself as an action and dance hero. I feel very happy and blessed to see all my hard work pay off and to be where I am. I don’t think there are too many people in my space and genre.

Upcoming projectsIJ

After this, I will start shooting for Baaghi 2, followed by Student Of The Year 2 and Rambo. My hands are full. I’m working on one project at a time which is not at all bothersome.
