The movie life of Pi typifies the best of Indo-Taiwanese collaboration. With this masterpiece, director Ang lee has proved his excellence by winning 4 Oscars including Best Director.
To celebrate lee’s win at the recent Oscars, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) along with Ambassador Chung-Kwang Tien, recently organised a special screening of life of Pi in the presence of the film’s lead actors Suraj Sharma and Adil Hussain.
It was Sharma’s 20th birthday that made it a double celebration. Both Sharma and Hussain also shared their experiences of shooting in Taiwan.
As for Sharma, so taken in he was with their hospitality that he felt half-Taiwanese. “The one year I spent here was unforgettable and I’ve wonderful memories of the country,” he said. Hojo Chang, managing director of the China Airlines, came on stage to present Sharma with a birthday gift — two business class round-trip tickets to Taiwan.
Director Ang lee who was not present on the occasion also sent a message for Sharma. ‘I wish him all the luck and a very happy birthday. He is a great find and I had a wonderful experience shooting with him and the other Indian stars,’ the message read.
