In a tussle between the Ghaziabad Bar Council and the police, the Bar Association has suspended agitation for 15 days. In a resolution passed by the general body of the Bar Association, it was decided to give 15 days time to the police to expunge the criminal case registered against 200 unidentified lawyers in an incident that occurred on April 18 in view of prevailing Model Code of Conduct.
The general body meeting of lawyers, also, passed a resolution to send a letter to the SSP in which the Bar president apprised the police chief that six constables not only roughed up a senior lawyer but also divested the former Bar Association secretary of his mobile phone, which was finally returned to the victim after several efforts by sub-inspector Pankaj Chaudhary in the midnight of April 13.
In a letter to the SSP, the Bar Association urged for the criminal case registered under Sections 147, 353, 427, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code and Section 7 in the Criminal law (Amendment) Act against 200 lawyers of the Ghaziabad Bar Council expunged.
Meanwhile, aggrieved lawyer Sashi Tyagi said he was going to file a complaint under Section 200 of CrPC to prosecute the constables on Monday. “In the complaint, a prayer will be made to prosecute the guilty constables who robbed me inside the police station,” said Sashi Tyagi.
