Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik said concrete efforts are required for improving the law and order. He said the UP Government was working for improving the law and order.
Addressing a Press conference on Saturday to present his report card to the people on completion of three years in office of the Government, the Governor said, “There is need for the firm resolve for improving the law and order in the State and this resolve is visible in the Yogi Adityanath efforts to improve the law and order situation in the state’’.
Asked about the performance of the Yogi Government as compared to the previous Akhilesh Government, the Governor said, “This comparison is not fair as both were my Governments. It’s for the electorate to evaluate the performance of the Government. I had cordial relations with former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and have good relations with present Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’’.
Moreover, the Governor said, “Akhilesh Government lasted for the full five-year term while the Yogi Government has barely completed four months in office. It will be better if the performance of the Yogi Government is evaluated after six months’’.
“I find no difference in working with the two Governments. I gave several suggestions to Akhilesh, sometimes he accepted and some he kept under his consideration’’, said the Governor.
Appreciating the Chief Minister for presenting his report card to the people on completion of 100 days of his Government, the Governor said, “It’s a good beginning as the Chief Minister is complying with the principal of accountability and transparency in public life.”
On the present stand-off between the Government and the Opposition parties in the State Assembly, the Governor said, “I have no role in this affair. It’s the job of the Speaker of the Assembly.” However, he said, “the Opposition should reconsider its decision to boycott the Assembly proceedings as the forum of State Assembly and Parliament is for the debate, it’s not for the monologue by the Government and both the treasury and Opposition should cooperate with each other’’.
He added, “The Opposition should have its say and the Government should have its way since it has majority on the floor of the House’’.
In oblique reference to Akhilesh Government, Ram Naik said, “The previous Government was slow in taking action on the enquiry reports submitted by the lokayukta to the State Government. The lokayukta submitted those reports to me which I referred to the State Government. Yogi has constituted a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to scrutinise the reports of the lokayukta and the Chief Minister will make a quarterly review of the reports for the action in a specified timeframe’’. The enquiry reports of the lokayukta would no longer remain a showpiece of the library, he added
Congratulating Ram Nath Kovind on his election as President, the Governor said, “When I was in the lok Sabha, he was member of the Rajya Sabha. later in 2004 after losing the lok Sabha elections from Mumbai, I was appointed as the chairman of the BJPs disciplinary committee and Ram Nath Kovind was the member. Today I am the Governor and he is President. Such things happen in a democratic polity.”
The Governor said he has asked all the Vice-Chancellors of the State universities to initiate the process of filling the vacancies in all the faculties of the agriculture, technical, medical and other universities and the advertisement be inserted in newspapers before August 15.
