A wireless operator of a senior Delhi Police officer is under scanner for his role in supplying illegal weapons to a notorious criminal in South West district.

The role of the wireless operator attached to an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of West district came to light following the arrest of arm supplier Gaurav.

Gaurav was arrested by the Special Investigation Team of Crime Branch of Delhi Police while the sleuths were tracking arm suppliers in sensational Deepak Bhardwaj murder case.

The wireless operator identified as constable Mohit Chaudhary is absconding, police said.

Police sources said that few days back, during an investigation into Bhardwaj murder case, they had intercepted several phone numbers of arms supplier of the Capital.

“Gaurav (24) works with a private company and lived with his family in Vikas Puri area. He was arrested from Rohini area on Friday night following the interception of his conversation with Ravish, a notorious criminal in Dwarka area,” the sources added.

Ravish was allegedly involved in an attempt to murder case.

Police have recovered one 7.62 mm pistol and a Swift desire car from Gaurav.

Investigators were shocked after Gaurav told them that he had met Constable Mohit Chaudhary, the operator of Additional DCP (West district) and the weapon was given by him.

“They met in a parking lot of Radisson Hotel where they consumed liquor and after their party, Chaudhary asked him to deliver the weapon to one of his accomplices,” the sources added.

After his arrest, now police is now looking for Chaudhary, who is absconding and he had even switched off his cell-phone. “On Saturday morning, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vikas Puri sub-division) PC Mann was also called for questioning as Chaudhary was earlier attached with him,” the sources added.

Police sources said, Ravish called Gaurav, following which the sleuths of the SIT intercepted his call and a team under the supervision of Inspector Aarti Sharma apprehended Gaurav when he was going to deliver the weapon to Ravish.

“After the interrogation of Gaurav, investigators verified all the details and they came to know that Gaurav was in constant touch with Constable Chaudhary and they had used mobile messaging app — Whatsapp to exchange their messages,” the sources said.
