An important three-day long State executive meet of Gujarat BJP has been planned at temple town Somnath from April 21 to form strategy in order to achieve target of 150 seats in the upcoming Assembly polls.

The meeting at Somnath reminded famous Rathyatra of lK Advani in 1990 which changed the political scenario of the nation. In the success of the Rathyatra which initiated from Somnath, current Prime Minister Narendra Modi played important role. In the State executive, BJP’s national president is expected to remain present. Shah is also trustee of Shree Somnath Temple Trust along with PM Modi, lK Advani and former Gujarat CM Keshubhai Patel.

“Focus of the State executive would be to create new record in the history of Gujarat by winning at least 150 out of 182 seats in the upcoming Assembly polls. We will discuss on poll strategies to achieve the target given by PM Modi,” said Bharat Pandya, Gujarat BJP spokesman.

Around four days ahead of the State executive, Modi is visiting Gujarat on 17th April. Obviously, he would give important inputs including that of holding the polls on its schedule in December of going for the early elections. Within the state BJP, on opinion has been created to call early assembly polls post the saffron brigade’s triumph in Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said that other points to be discussed during the state executive would how to tackle Patidar agitation, unemployment issue raised by OBC leader Alpesh Thakor and issues created post Dalit flogging in Saurashtra region. Moreover, problems related to water scarcity have already begun in Saurashtra –Kutch region and it would only intensify if the monsoon would delay. Some leaders, especially from Saurashtra –Kutch region are in favour of calling early polls, said a source in Gujarat BJP.

After almost one and half decade, Gujarat BJP would fight first major elections in the state without its illustrious leader Narendra Modi. Though he would surely camp in Gujarat and address numbers of public rallies in the run up to the assembly polls, PM Modi’s constant presence during the poll campaign wouldn’t be possible. State leadership knows the fact very well this issue would also be discuss there.
