BJP national president Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Goa, has described the implementation of the GST regime as one of the most important events after Independence, one that will help India compete with global super-powers.

In his address to party workers in Goa, Shah, who is expected to oversee organisational affairs and chart a course for the 2019 general elections, also said that GST will help people across sections of India and help businesses in the country.

“What happened yesterday at midnight, was the biggest tax reform since Independence. India and its 125 crore people, is now ready to compete with the world. Whether in Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat or Assam, everywhere there will be a common tax structure and there will be no impediments. By eliminating multiple taxes, and introducing only one tax, the BJP’s Narendra Modi Government has delivered businessmen and entrepreneurs from Inspector Raj,” Shah said.

“Efforts were made to malign this tax reform. I want to assure that the tax form through GST, its start mmight be muted, but it give India a top position in the world with speed,” Shah also said.

Shah lunched with ruling alliance members at the State Circuit house, before addressing a meeting with senior party members, as well as addressed industrialists and working professionals in the state.

He is expected to inaugurate the BJP’s South Goa district headquarters office in Margao town, before heading back to the national capital.

Meanwhile, the Congress,  has accused the BJP for the “high-handed” manner in which a party meeting was held at the Dabolim airport premises in honour of Shah.
