The separatist Hurriyat Conference faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday suspended Nayeem Khan and his National Front party from the amalgam following a sting operation by a New Delhi based TV channel that showed him conceding that the separatist leadership in Kashmir receives funding from Pakistan through hawala channels to foment trouble.
Khan at a Press conference said that his statement has been portrayed out of context and in bits and pieces with a design to malign him.
Geelani had summoned a meeting of the leaders of all constituents of his faction including Nayeem Khan but police prevented their assembly.
Geelani later in a statement said that Khan has been suspended from the basic membership of the amalgam. “We summoned all constituent members, including Nayeem Ahmad Khan to facilitate him to keep his view point before executive body. However police authorities did not allow leaders to hold a meeting at his residence in Hyderpora.
Geelani said that even as Khan has clarified his position at a Press conference but “until the clarification of all related issues comes to fore, the membership (of Khan) will remain suspended. It is my moral duty and as supreme head of forum (to take action).”
He said the Indian media is a biased and not trustworthy. “They (Indian media) are working for Indian agencies and as mouthpiece for fanatical forces,” he added.
Meanwhile normal life remained suspended in several parts of old Srinagar as the authorities disallowed a congregation to commemorate the death anniversary of two separatist leaders Mirwaiz Farooq and Abdul Ghani lone who were killed in 1990 and 2002 respectively on May 21.
The authorities have announced to continue the restrictions in old parts of Srinagar on Sunday as well. Most of the separatist leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been put under house arrest.
