The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a pan-Indian cheating racket, which was ran by a former call centre owner, for duping people on the pretext of providing Government jobs under Rajiv Awas Yojana. Six people, including the kingpin of the racket, were arrested from various parts of the Capital and Uttar Pradesh. Police have recovered forged appointment letters, printers and laptops from them.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav, the gang members would convince their targets in such a manner that the victims end up depositing huge amounts of money as training fee and expenses for joining the duty.

The arrested were identified as Samar Malik (26), Manoj Sharma (26), Javed Khan (32), Abhishek Sharma (29), Mohinder Kumar (29) and Sulabh Gulati (23). Malik used to run a call centre and was the kingpin of the whole racket. The members posed themselves as senior officers, secretaries in Government departments and lured the innocent people. Police said 14 mobile phones, two laptops, two printers, 300 forged appointment letters under the Rajiv Awas Yojana have been recovered from them.

Acting on the information that a gang is duping gullible youths from across the country by publishing advertisements regarding Government jobs, conducting fake interviews and sending forged appointment letters, a case was filed and probe was launched.

“Acting on the reference received from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding cheating, the Crime Branch launched the probe and a raid was conducted in Ghaziabad, in which four of the accused, including kingpin Samar Malik, were arrested from their office,” said Yadav.

During the interrogation, they revealed the name of Saurabh Gulati from Meerut who provides them printed forged documents — including appointment letters under Rajiv Awas Yojana. He was arrested from his house. On his instance one more accused Mohinder Singh was picked up from Delhi, who provides fake ID cards.

It was learnt that that Samar Malik started a call centre in the name of ‘Bharat Rojgar.com’ but suffered huge loss after which he came in contact with Govind and Gautam who lured him into this racket. While his father is a farmer, his mother works in health department in Uttar Pradesh.

Javed Khan, who holds a ‘BAMS’ degree from Meerut suffered loss in his nursing home and joined Malik in his crime. He played a key role in inducing the innocent people to deposit money.

Abhishek Sharma joined in to make easy money and used to impersonate as executive. During investigation, it has also surfaced that some unscrupulous persons used to open bank accounts on the basis of fake IDs and then handover operation of these accounts to the accused after charging Rs25,000 to Rs50,000 per account.
