Friendliness for a smooth life
Published on:

We are all born with a sense of freedom deeply ingrained in our mind. Accordingly, we all wish to be a ‘free bird’ and be in control of things in life. Given a choice, one would like to fly out towards one’s dream destination unhindered, and that too at one’s own exclusive terms.

Ground reality, however, runs to the contrary. Our wings are pulled by the consequences of the cause-effect chain, carried over from the past. That leaves us trapped into limitations exercised by our self-created individualistic samskara (thought-trends). We are all, thus, born unique, each carrying varying mental orientation. It will, therefore, not be unfair to surmise that we have a caged-bird existence. Rousseau succinctly described human predicament through his one liner: “Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.  One man thinks himself the master of others, but remains more of a slave than they are.”

The obvious question now is: “Is it possible to come out of self-acquired shackles to become a free-birdIJ” To find an answer, we first need to understand what freedom means in practical terms. It is pertinent to note here that the living order we belong to, happens to be a well-knit unified organism, which is essentially set into an inseparable and interdependent framework. In this scheme of things, no individual constituent has a reality independent of the entirety, which includes the observer. In such a complex set up, an individual’s aberration will not simply invite pains and sufferings to the self, but could also upset societal balance. That once again boils down to the question: “Does such a complex living order leave any scope for enjoying the sense of freedomIJ”

let me make it clear that freedom doesn’t enjoin upon us the right to passionately and blindly pursue our whims and fancies. Freedom or limitation is actually in the mind. Remember, invariably, the memory impressions carried over from the past preconditions our mind one way or the other. Mind, thus, comes under limitation, whence it is allowed a narrow vision for having the world view. That does not let us have an all-encompassing view of the issues in hand. We may, thus, fail to comprehend issues in hand in the right perspective, and with obvious consequences. On the contrary, when full expanse of mind is available, it would know no limits. It is then capable of spontaneously and effortlessly leading us to the right course due. So, becoming a free-bird actually means allowing free run to the mind. That, in turn, calls for freeing it of all its pre-laid impressions. Mind then, free from any egotistical limitations regains its natural order, when its wholesome power comes into full play.

The paradox, however, is that invariably we remain stuck to the callings of our preconditioned mind. Evidently then, with each one of us, keen to passionately pursue individualistic dream destinations, often at cross purposes with competing interests of others, life turns into a rollercoaster ride. And when put to a strenuous situation, instead of trying to find out one’s own fault-lines for necessary correction, often one is tempted to take refuge in the callings of destiny. A case in point is that of someone who has lost his peace of mind. He, instead of trying to figure out inlaid vulnerabilities for course of correction, has been exploring remedial measures to mitigate the callings of destiny. let us look at his astrological markers.

Born in Virgo lagna with its lord Mercury in its own lunar constellation implies that he suffers from the “I am the only right person” syndrome. He can’t digest any idea or suggestion at variance with his perceptions. Presenting himself as a perfectionist, he expects from all others to prove true his self-defined parameters. Any digression and he becomes overcritical. He doesn’t refrain from passing even caustic remarks.

Mercury as well as the two luminaries, the Sun and Moon, all occupying fixed signs, point to his stubborn nature with a fixated one-track mind. The two luminaries are also ill-disposed off to Saturn as well as Mars. It implies that he is suspicious by nature, and has the habit of finding fault with others. He would be irritable and revengeful.

He thus earns the ire of everybody both at home and work. So, he himself has created an uncongenial atmosphere. He needs to realise that the world doesn’t move according to one’s asking; also, that he needs to be in accordance with collective existence, to secure an easy go in life.
