The Sewree police on Saturday arrested the owner of a decoration firm on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for allegedly contributing to the collapse of four-storey BMC building on Friday morning.

Acting on a complaint lodged with them by local BMC deputy superintendent Prithviraj C Chavan, the police took Ashok Kumar Jatansingh Mehta (45), the owner of Mamamiya Decorators, into custody for allegedly carrying out major illegal alterations in his office-cum-warehouse on the ground floor of the ill-fated building.
