Fearless auto driver foils robbery bid; armed bikers held

Published on:

Cocking a snook at the Delhi Police, two bike-borne gunmen on Saturday afternoon tried to rob a couple at gunpoint on the high security Pandara Road on Saturday morning.

The bikers were following the couple travelling in an auto-rickshaw from the Red Fort and when they reached Pandara Road, they pointed the gun at the driver, telling him to pull over.

But the alertness of the driver helped save the day as he swerved his vehicle and hit their bike - making them crash. The auto driver then raised an alarm, drawing the attention of passersby who promptly came to the trio's rescue. The bikers were restrained, and the Police Control Room alerted. The suspects — identified as Rohit (20) and Farhan Sheikh (21) — were arrested from the spot.

The accused have previous police records and the motorcycle used in the incident was a stolen one.

“We are continuing investigations and are unraveling their history and cases registered against them. Our constable was present at the spot and the public had caught the accused. They were sent to Tilak Marg police station. A country-made pistol was also recovered from them,” said SBS Tyagi, DCP, New Delhi area.
