In a shocking incident captured on a CCTV camera, a minor girl was allegedly attacked by a boy after she resisted his efforts to lewd comments at her at Kurla in north-central Mumbai.
The incident took place at 7.30 pm on October 17, when the victim was going to her tuition classes along with her friend.
In a complaint lodged with the Nehru Nagar police station, the victim girl complained that the accused hurled stones at her. When the girl raised an alarm, the boy assaulted her.
Talking to several media channels, the victim girl said: “I was going to my class along with my friend. Some boys who were inside a stationary autorickshaw passed lewd comments at me. Even in the past, one of them would tease me. Even that day (October 17), I told the youngsters to stop. The accused hurled stones at me. later, the same accused punched me. I fainted”.
In her complaint, she identified the accused as one Imran (Shekhawar). Soon after the complaint, the police arrested Imran and slapped minor charges. The accused boy was let off soon afterwards.
The police initially registered a case under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC.
Among other things, the victim girl — during her media interactions — alleged that the police had not recorded her statement wrongly apparently to shield the accused boy.
However, after the CCYV footage that showed the accused following the victim girl and punching her rendering her fainted, the police are contemplating invoking the provisions of Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences Act, (POCSO Act) against the accused boy.
The investigators are examining the incriminating CCTV footage.
