Two of the Capital’s leading five-star hotels, The Imperial and Eros, which had been issued notices for closure of their kitchen and restaurants for alleged non-compliance of pollution control norms, on Saturday claimed that the authorities have given them more time for compliance.
The two hotels had been issued notices by Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) of the Delhi Government's Environment Department for not taking other eco-friendly measures.
Vijay Wanchoo, Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager, The Imperial, said in an e-mail that the issue concerning environmental norms had always been dealt with on a war footing but for the delay in installation of a STP due to non-availability of passage into the hotel because of Metro construction work. Wanchoo said the DPCC had considered that and “has granted the necessary extensions and has also issued a letter of revocation to the concerned government authorities.” Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Eros said there has been no apparent violation of DPCC policy as of now.
“We would like to clarify that as per DPCC official’s inspection in December 2013, the hotel since then has duly conformed and installed STP plant. Both civil and mechanical or excavation work have been completed. The testing of the plant is in progress and this will be operational in a week. Organic waste converter has been selected, installed and was operational in March 2014. For converting the boiler from oil to natural gas fired boiler, we have contacted IGl. The status has been shared and confirmed to DPCC,” it said, adding that no closure order was “in” on date.
