While two more girls joined the indefinite hunger strike with three students on Saturday, outside the Faculty of law at Delhi University, they alleged that teachers were equally responsible for the mass failure. The first and second year students are demanding promotions, saying that the mass failure was due to the "irregularities" within the Faculty of law.
Students have been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike for the past few weeks against the closure of evening classes and over the issue of mass failure in semester examinations.
"Even if they fail those who have scored a zero, we would consider that but failing all of us is injustice. Some teachers do not even deserve to be teaching us and are equally to be blamed for the results. A survey carried by the faculty to check the performance of the professors has not been out yet," alleged Nishant, one of the aggrieved students of the Faculty of law.
The students had burned the effigy of the Dean of the Faculty on Friday while slogans were shouted against the former Dean SC Raina, who had visited the premises and tried to speak with the students, on the same day,
More students are reportedly joining the agitation. The students are disgruntled over the recent decision of the university, which promoted undergraduate students.
"If they gave promotion to so many undergraduate students why are they playing with our futureIJ This is clearly an indication of some conspiracy against us," said a student requesting anonymity.
After violent protests on Friday, classes were suspended till Monday. The agitating students have threatened to intensify the protest further and are planning to burn the effigy of Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi on Monday.
"Earlier, the joint registrar (legal) had visited us on day one and assured that if we withdraw the protest, all our demands would be accepted within a week. later, he refused to talk to us and asked us to knock the door of the vice chancellor. We do not want assurances or recommendations but a notification stating that university has accepted all our demands," added Nishant.
Dean, Faculty of law, Ved Kumari told The Pioneer if the students have a rightful cause, they should approach the High Court or Supreme Court. “We have already sent them our reply," she said.
