A 19-year-old Delhi University student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself and left a purported video message on her mobile phone accusing her neighbours of harassing her enough to take this extreme step. After seeing the video, police have registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 306 of IPC. No arrests have been made so far.
According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday night at around 9 pm. The deceased’s father, who works with a Hindi national daily, discovered her body when he went to her room to call her for dinner.
She left a suicide note on the table saying that the reason for her death is in a video message on her mobile phone. Speaking to The Pioneer, her father revealed his daughter was being stalked and harassed by the neighbours.
“My daughter was thrashed by them in August 2013 and the boys were arrested later. later they filed a complaint against me under SC/ST Act. In the video, she has named everyone who made her life miserable. She also said that she was defamed by the accused on several occasions,” said the father.
Police were informed about the incident at around 1 am. When the police screened her mobile phone, they found a video wherein she stated that the two brothers and their sister living in her locality were regularly harassing her.
