The Delhi University’s online registrations for admission to 54,000 seats in its undergraduate courses have crossed 3-lakh mark this week. The increase in the sale of application forms this year is mainly due to the high number of students scoring more than 90% and above marks. The aspirants, who scored less mark, are pinning all their hopes on the university’s five per cent relaxation in Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) and Sports Quota.
On Saturday, the 17th day of online registration, as many as 3,15,076 aspirants registered their application forms online and of these, 2, 05,698 have made payments. Among them, 1,29,534 belonged to the General category, 49,580 OBC; 21,607 SC and 584 applicants were under the Person with Disability (PWD) category. Around 67,683 application forms were sold at different centres. Out of which 51,437 applications have been received.
In every centre, a special desk has been assigned for aspirants who are seeking admissions through ECA. A list of all registrations will be sent to higher authorities for auditions, which will be held by July-end. As per the university’s regulations, certificates are required for both ECA and sports quota. The weightage given to trials and certificates are fifty per cent.
“The total sum up relaxation for both ECA and Sports Quota is five per cent. Now, it depends on the college, how they will balance the ratio for both quotas.” said a DU official. “It is mandatory for every college to provide seats under Sports Quota. However, colleges can make their own ratio for the relaxations,” official added. Students below eighty per cent marks are more likely to get admission through ECA and Sports Quota.
