DoE slaps show-cause notice on flouting schools

Several private schools that had been flouting the l-G guidelines on nursery admissions fell in line after The Pioneer highlighted the violation on their part. Recognised unaided schools like VSPK International and Prabhu Dayal Public school rectified the criteria on their website which, until Friday, were completely in violation of the new guidelines issued by the DoE.

Following the reports of The Pioneer, the Directorate of Education issued show-cause notices to VSPK International, Rohini, Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh and BGS International School, Dwarka. The authorities visited the schools and met the respective Principals who admitted the lapse. “It has been found that these schools are not complying with the provisions of admission policy as notified on December 18 and December 27 by the DoE. They have now rectified the errors and will henceforth strictly abide by the police regarding admission,” said a statement from the DoE.

The DoE, in its statement, has also advised all private schools in the capital to strictly adhere to the prescribed rules of nursery admission. VSPK International, Rohini had completely ignored the new nursery admission guidelines for 2014-15 approved by lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and came up with their own rules for admission with absolutely different parameters and point allocation. On Saturday the school rectified its criteria falling in line with the l-G order after The Pioneer reported about its non-abidance. The Pioneer reported the story on Friday.

“There are a lot of schools which are either not aware of the new guidelines or choose to violate them. I am glad that the schools are now falling in line,” said activist Sumit Vohra of Admissionsnursery.com who had highlighted the issue and also complained to the DoE against certain schools for manipulation of the criteria.

In violation of the fixed point system as instructed by the Directorate of Education, Prabhu Dayal School in Shalimar Bagh had also allotted neighbourhood points to those within 0-6 kilometers from the school and displayed it on their website, going against the DoE guidelines which allotted 70 points to children within 8 kilometers from a school. VSPK school had displayed on its website a completely different criteria chart for nursery admissions in the coming session by allocating 30 points for the neighbourhood, 20 to siblings, 15 points to boy child, 20 points to girl, 10 points each to Alumni/Single parent, transfer cases and single child.
