The inaugural heritage walk titled ‘An Empire’s Tale through the Blooming Red’ organised by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday was attended by hundreds of tourists and heritage enthusiasts.

DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said that it will benefit the tourists who visit Delhi from different States in India and around the world.

“People were given a detailed view of the cultural and historical heritage of many old Delhi landmarks,” Dayal told The Pioneer.

Delhi Metro opened its ITO-Kashmere Gate section on May 28 this year.

The Heritage Corridor passes through various historical landmarks such as Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Red Fort.

The DMRC has decided to hold the ‘heritage walks’ every weekend, in collaboration with a group called Delhi Walks. The initiative comes two months after the DMRC launched the Heritage line.

A DMRC official said that a total of eight such walks with different themes will be arranged on all weekends of the month of August as part of this pilot project.

“A total of eight such thematic walks will be conducted during the month on Saturdays and Sundays. The project may be carried further depending on the feedback of the participants,” he said.
