As the national Capital is gearing for harsh summers, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDl) is planning to bring some “relief” by providing uninterrupted power.
The power discom has also made adequate power arrangements of 2,000 MW (along with contingency planning) through long-term tie-ups and power banking arrangements to handle the peak demand. Further to improve its distribution network, Tata Power-DDl has also added 18 high tension feeders (11KV) comprising 113.29 km.
“In order to meet with eventualities, the power major has already deployed 39 mobile distribution transformers for managing breakdown and the transformers are evenly stationed in the entire distribution network. In addition to this, 53 maintenance vehicles are operating round the clock to attend break-down complaints. A dedicated round the clock teams to attend breakdown and supply restoration for sub-transmission system have also been created,” said a senior official of Tata Power.
Another senior official of Tata Power-DDl said on the technology front too, the company has implemented high-tech automated systems for its entire distribution network.
“Smart metering is a cornerstone of the company’s distribution automation project. To fight the menace of power theft, we have adopted different modern technologies like high voltage distribution (HVDS) system and ‘lT Arial Bunch Conductor’,” he said.
Earlier, the TPDD to ensure uninterrupted supply had exported power up to 200 MW to the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Meghalaya and Assam during winter of 2016 under banking arrangements. The same power shall now be returned by these States to Tata Power-DDl in the summer month of 2017.
“As the Metrological Department has forecast an extremely hot summers this time, we are expecting the peak power demand to reach 1,900 MW in our area. The demand will be met through our long-term tie-ups amounting to around 2,000 MW and other suitable arrangements. Our power import banking arrangements of up to 200 MW with other states will also contribute significantly in ensuring regular supply and will take care of any contingency requirements.” said an official.
