Did Vijay laxmi Pandit know about Netaji?

Some of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s family members are sincerely looking for some clue on whether Vijay laxmi Pandit had any information on Netaji after 1949. There are reports that she had communicated to her brother and then Prime Minister of India Jl Nehru about Netaji’s whereabouts, a family member said.

“There are reports that she referred to some ‘towering leader’ in a public meeting, but was stopped by the then Prime Minister who was also present at the venue from doing so. Whether this is a gossip needs to be studied” he said adding “some clue must be there in one of these files with the Bengal Government or the Centre if this story has some substance.”

Whether the Vijay laxmi Pandit story is true or not one thing is clear from the police files on Netaji declassified on Friday by the Bengal Government that the CID of Howrah had received some messages in 1949 that confirmed his presence even during 1949.

“My question is simple. If the Government or for that matter Nehru or his men in Kolkata were so sure that Netaji had perished in an air crash then why did they indulge in snooping on his family members like my father Amiyanath Bose or my uncle Sisir Bose. It is because they had a fear of his coming back to India in which event their political existence would be swept away,” said Chandra Bose son of Amiya Bose a former Forward Bloc MP and nephew of Netaji.

The CID quoted some American intelligence agency’s reports while questioning the theory on Taihoku air crash that reportedly killed the great hero. To buttress this argument it has been claimed referring to the declassified files that a similar gossip on Netaji’s death in an air crash was floated in 1942.
