Despite snub, JPC chief to hold 2G meet in June

Notwithstanding 15 members of JPC rejecting his draft report on 2G spectrum scam, JPC Chairman PC Chacko doesn’t share a grim view about fate of his panel’s report and plans to hold a meeting in June to discuss it.

The panel will meet in the first or second week of June as most of the members said that they were not free during this month, in view of pre-occupation with various Parliamentary Committee reports, Chacko said.

However, in view of 15 members giving letter to Speaker Meira Kumar demanding that Chacko be removed from JPC Chairman’s post as they have lost confidence in him, the meeting is likely to be stormy affairs.

Chacko, who faced the wrath of JPC members from Opposition parties after the draft report gave clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram for the scam, will try to get the report adopted at the next meeting after debate.

But the Opposition is likely to make an all out effort to foil his move. The key to the entire controversy is in the hand of stand to be taken by member of the Samajwadi Party, who in the past had objected to former Telecom Minister A Raja not being called as a witness, but avoided demanding removal of Chacko.
