After several delays, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has finally come up with a date for conducting a special hearing to fix accountability for the power blackouts following the killer May 30 storm. The hearing will be conducted on September 2.
“In order to ensure that the concerned defaulting stakeholders are made accountable for the series of long power outages, we will hold a hearing in the case on September 2,” said PD Sudhakar, chairperson of DERC.While explaining how the case will be taken forward, he further said, “We will find out why and how come it (the power outages) happened. And if need be, we will also ask the stakeholders to provide us with evidence to substantiate their claims.”
Explaining the reason for the delay, the power regulator said, “It is not that we were delaying. The Delhi Transco limited had asked for time in submitting detailed reply which took time. If required, we will penalise the defaulting stakeholders.”
