Delhi Congress to stage protest against GST

Delhi Congress is all set to hold a protest outside the Parliament on July 18 against Goods and Services Tax (GST) in its present form.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Saturday held meetings with the party workers across Delhi to review preparations ahead of scheduled demonstration.

Addressing the party workers, Maken said the faulty implementation of the GST, in its present form, has adversely affected not only the traders but also the common people. "The GST in its present form are intended to benefit only the rich and industrialist friends of the Modi Government while small and medium industries are forced to close shops as they are unable to bear with its innumerable tax slabs and cesses," he said.

Maken said the BJP had promised to give employment to two crore youth every year but it has failed to keep up its promise despite being in power for three years.

Hitting out at the centre, he said: "The world over, wherever GST has been implemented, an outer limit has been set, but the BJP-led Central Government has created six GST slabs with an outer limit of 40 per cent."

He further said that said after implementing the GST by the BJP-led Central Government, the "roti, kapada aur makan" of the common people have been affected as prices have soared sky-high, and the prices of essential commodities have gone beyond the reach of the common people.

"lakhs of people and traders had come out to protest against GST at Surat (Gujarat) and similarly the traders and common people of Delhi will also came out to protest against the new tax regime," he said.
