DDA to hand over 13 sites to NMC to develop surface parking lots

Published on:

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has decided to transfer 13 parking sites to North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) for developing surface parking lots in its areas, said leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly and member of DDA Vijender Gupta.

Gupta said that these sites will be transferred on Monday. "These parking sites will be developed through out-sourcing at Rohini, Timarpur, Azadpur Sabji Mandi, Wazirpur Industrial Area, Jhandevala Extension, New Rajendra Nagar, Pitampura, Punjabi Bagh, and Yamuna Sur Ghat. Once constructed, it will accommodate 15000 cars, trucks and other vehicles," he said.

He further said that there were some hurdles for development of these parking sites due to dispute between DDA and NMC over property tax in respect of these properties. "The problem has now been resolved through a series of meetings.  Now, it has been decided that the corporation will not demand property tax in respect of these parking sites from DDA and ownership of these properties will remain vested with DDA," he said.

A senior official of the north Corporation said that parking is a major focus area of the corporation and the civic body keeps exploring spots for parking. Non-availability of parking space has been a major problem and also a reason for illegal parking.
