DDA accused of not giving land for school

Terming Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) "anti-education", Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday lashed out at Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for not giving required land for the construction of an old school that has been operating in Eidgah in Ballimaran.

Incidentally, the land owning agency, run by Central Government, demolished the school in 1976 during Emergency. However, the school is being run by the private players in makeshift arrangements.

"The school was established in 1948, however, during emergency, school structure was demolished," "DDA committed to High Court to give 4,000 square metre of land to Delhi Government for the construction of a school, but now DDA is saying that it will give only 1,600 square metres," said Education Minister.

Sisodia further said, "The school is senior secondary, but DDA is giving land on CBSE norms." "How is it possible to construct senior secondary school in just 1,600 square metres when the school hosts eleventh and twelfth classes," Sisodia asked and seeking reply from DDA and BJP.

Attacking Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and former Chief Secretary Anshu Paraksh, Sisodia said, "without informing the Education Minister, DDA officials and LG have reduced the size of required land and violated FAR norms under MPD 2021 for school buildings," he asserted.

"We have set the target to construct 1,200 new classrooms but the land they would allot us is just a lane for school which is not acceptable," Sisodia said. He lashed out at the DDA for being "anti-education". "Once again, the BJP has proved its anti-education stand. They want our country to remain illiterate," he said.
