Close on the heels of a Behrampore court issuing a non-bailable arrest warrant against Junior Railway Minister Adhir Chowdhury, the Murshidabad Congress leader lashed out against the Mamata Banerjee Government for “letting loose the police against the Opposition leaders before the elections.”
“Mamata Banerjee is using the police to stifle the Opposition parties and rule Bengal as per her whims and fancies,” Chowdhury said, adding he would “still go to my district and work for the people. I will do my job and let the police do theirs.”
Earlier the warrant was issued by ACJM Ali Biswas on Friday after the police filed a charge-sheet against Chowdhury in a two-year-old murder case of one Kamal Sheikh who was bumped off by some miscreants in 2011.
“Mamata Banerjee is even crossing the limits of the CPI(M) in stifling Opposition voice. She did not get the charge-sheet filed in these many months. She has done it today following Supreme Court orders barring persons from fighting polls who spend more than two years in jail,” Chowdhury said, adding the Chief Minister was doing so after failing to politically oust the Congress from Murshidabad.
