Investigations into the double murder of a mother-son duo in Outer Delhi’s Rohini area negate robbery as the prime motive. Family members allege that neither were there any valuables in the house nor was anything substantial missing. The crime scene and circumstantial evidence clearly indicate a staged heist to deflect police attention. Moreover, the differently-abled son was also reportedly an HIV carrier and had strained conjugal relations with his wife, who, police surmise, supposedly contracted the disease from him and died three years ago at her parents’ place.
Police are also scooping data with ‘tower dumps’ to catch the criminals. The “tower dump” technique gives police data about the identity, activity and location of any phone that connects to targeted cell towers over a set span of time, generally an hour or two. A typical dump covers multiple towers, and mobile providers, and can net information about thousands of mobile phones. The dumps are usually used in circumstances when police have few leads and can be a useful, powerful tool in tracking down criminals.
Also, the wallet recovered from the crime scene bearing the ID of Virendra Sharma, a resident of Vijay Vihar area and works at Rohini Court, is being looked into by police. Virendra is being tracked down to ascertain how his wallet was found at the crime scene and his involvement, if any, in the twin homicide.
Sixty two-year-old Usha Mishra and her 40-year-old differently-abled son Jitendra Prakash were found bludgeoned to death at their residence in Rohini Sector 5 area on Friday afternoon where they had been living for the last 26 years.
