Cops want 80 more CCTV cameras

To ensure round the clock monitoring of the city, Noida Police has demanded 80 more CCTV cameras to be installed at sensitive points. The decision was taken by the law enforcement agency after surge in cases of on-road crime, vehicle lifting, loot and arsons in the city.

Noida Police has sought to install more CCTV cameras at strategic locations including border areas, entry points and crowded markets for round the clock monitoring. Presently, 122 CCTV are functioning on 41 points and after accepting the proposal total number of camera will go upto 202.

Noida Police has identified some vulnerable places like - Mahamaya flyover, Express-Highway, Phase-II & III, Sector-71, road towards Greater Noida West, Sector 37 and areas besides NH-24.

The police also asked to install high magnified CCTV cameras this time so they could easily scan the number plates of moving vehicles so the traffic violators could be identified and could be prosecuted through e-challan.

Police has also urged to install more moving cameras to keep close vigil on entire area. Apart from this, all RWA people have been asked to fix CCTV cameras at all entry and exit points of their sectors so the activities of every suspected element could be scanned.

At the time of the arson and loot during two-day strike in Phase-II in February, city police faced multiple problems in identifying the vandals as no CCTV camera was installed in Phase-II and other places where violence took place. On March 13, a loot of Rs 1.15 crore was conducted near Mahamaya flyover while no camera was fixed in the vicinity of the flyover so police could identify the robbers.

“As the volume of the city is expanding, the need of the hour is to set-up CCTV cameras in every nook and corner of the city. It will not only help in smooth vehicular movement while also help in day to day policing,” said MP Singh, SP (Traffic), Noida.

Sandeep Chandra, in-charge of Noida Traffic Cell, said, “Noida Authority is concerned with the proposal of the police and the decision will be taken in this regard soon. We have checking the details and the proposal is likely to be approved up to the next month.”
