Cops save two minors trapped in fire at creche

Timely action of three Delhi Police officials saved the lives of two minor children — aged 3 and 5 years — stuck inside a crèche after a fire broke out at a preschool in Outer Delhi’s Rohini area on Saturday afternoon.

Head constable Rituraj and constables Jogendra and Jitendra were patrolling the area and tried to battle the blaze after being informed on their wireless. Sapna Seth, teacher at the creche, who was also present in the playschool jumped from the second floor in an attempt to save herself.

According to the police, the blaze was first noticed by a beat constable who was in the area around 12.45 pm. He immediately flashed the message on the wireless set. The police officials, who were patrolling the area, immediately rushed to the playschool. They reached the terrace of the adjacent house and broke open the window. “The cops acted swiftly and broke through the crèche’s window. The children were found stranded in a thick layer of smog and were timely saved,” said a police official.

The fire took place due to a leakage in the gas cylinder at the crèche. Sapna was the first to get trapped in the fire. In an attempt to save herself, she leaped from the second floor and landed on her neighbour’s car. “She sustained 60 per cent burns and is currently in the ICU of a city hospital,” an officer said.
