A team of Delhi Police on Saturday visited St Stephen’s College and quizzed the members of the administration and internal probe committee in connection with the case of sexual harassment alleged by a PhD student against an assistant professor of the college. Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chief Barkha Shukla Singh has dubbed the alleged sexual harassment case filed against a professor of St Stephen’s College as “shameful” and called for a probe into the matter.
According to sources, the police officials approached the college administration and inquired about the matter as the victim had already filed a complaint with the college’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in February, this year. An assistant professor and bursar Satish Kumar was booked on Friday at Maurice Nagar police station.
“We have got information from the ICC members. We also contacted college Principal Valson Thampu and the bursar to get their versions,” said a police officer.
In the FIR, the complainant had alleged that Kumar “sexually assaulted” her in October 2013 inside a laboratory. Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chief said that it is such a prestigious college and it is shameful if anything like this has happened. “The matter should be investigated and the guilty should face action,” Singh said.
