The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress, headed by party president Sonia Gandhi, could not finalise the list of candidates for Delhi elections on Saturday.
It seems, to ensure smooth sail through, the party is treading cautiously and does not want to take chances in choosing ‘winnable’ candidates.
Sources said a deadlock emerged during discussion over some of the controversial candidates and sitting MlAs hence which is resulting in delay in announcing the name of candidates.
Sources indicated that the entire list will be announced at one go on November 12. However, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday stated that the party will announce the name of the candidates on Monday.
She further added there are at least six-seven seats where candidates have not been finalised. The final decision is to be taken by CEC. On the other hand, Delhi Congress Chief JP Aggarwal indicated that list may be announced on Sunday. Sources said that the party
has already decided to give tickets to all sitting MlAs except Dayanand Chandela where the party is planning to give tickets to his family member.
"The party has focused on the win-ability criteria while finalising the candidates for the Assembly polls. Besides, the party is waiting for the final list of the BJP before announcing its candidates," said the sources.
