The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee upped the ante on Saturday and declared that it was ready to take on the “corrupt” AIADMK Government ruling the State “head on”. A delegation, led by TNCC president EVKS Elangovan, called on Governor Roseiah at the Raj Bhawan in Chennai and submitted a memorandum which has a list of corruption and misdeeds by the Ministers in the O Panneerselvam-led AIADMK Government.

“We have submitted a detailed memorandum listing the failures of the State Government as well as corruption charges against the Ministers. This is the first time Tamil Nadu is witnessing such a large scale of corruption by Ministers,” said Elangovan after submitting the memorandum to the Governor. He said it was for the Governor to decide the course of action to be taken.

The Congress is in a rejuvenated mood following the cancellation of license issued to the Coca Cola manufacturing facility by the Government in Erode district. “It was a victory for Elangovan and the Congress. The TNCC chief was the leader of the agitation against the Coca Cola plant,” said CD Meyyappn, AICC member.

An ailing Kumari Ananthan, former TNCC chief,  flagged off the rally to the Raj Bhavan. All prominent leaders of the TNCC, in spite of their differences took part in the rally which saw thousands of Congress party workers joining the show. “The fact that P Chidambaram, described as a known critic of Elangovan, too joined the rally shows that the party is united in its fight against the corrupt Government,” said Meyyappan.

Interestingly, the Congress stole a march over other Opposition parties by becoming the first political outfit to take out a procession to the Raj Bhawan against the “misdeeds” of the AIADMK Government, according to A Gopanna, party spokesman.
