Cong scared of exposure: BJP

Alleging that the Congress is scared of being exposed, the Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Saturday said the Congress-led Delhi Government has been indulging in corruption for the past 15 years; hence, it is not approving of the idea. Through a media brief issued by the party on Saturday, Goel said, “The Congress is opposing it (Accountability Commission) as it is scared that the Accountability Commission will fix responsibility for scams carried out by the Government in the last 15 years. Congress knows that many of those patronised and shielded by its Government will land in jails once the Accountability Commission is set up for Delhi.”

While reiterating that as BJP comes to power, it will set up the Accountability Commission, which will look into cases of graft and irregularities effected during the 15-year misrule by the Congress Government. “It holds people involved accountable for their wrongdoings,” he said in the statement. Statement issued by the BJP leader also alleged that the Congress Ministers are misleading the people on the issue of power, education and water.

“The Congress Ministers have made wrong claims regarding the power situation in Delhi. The Ministers’ excuse that the power purchase cost is very high and hence, cheaper electricity cannot be provided to people in Delhi is misleading. The power purchase cost is high for Delhi because of the collusion between the Congress Government and the power discoms,” it said. Goel also stated that CAG has clearly stated in its report that over 40 per cent areas of Delhi do not get drinking water from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

While contradicting the statement issued by the Congress Minister pertaining to the education scenario in the Capital, Goel said that there has been a sharp decline in the opportunities for higher education as no new college has been set up in the last 15 years by the Delhi Government. “The BJP Government during 1993-’98 had set up five new colleges, established Indraprastha University and set up Directorate of Education to promote higher education and technical education. When elected to power, the BJP will bring back higher education in focus, open an online university, provide relaxation of 5 per cent marks for students of Delhi and open new colleges,” he stated.
