Cong-left call for bandh evokes huge response

Congress and the left on Saturday came together to protest against the lynching of a student leader allegedly by the Trinamool Congress goons inside a college campus at Sabang in West Midnapore district even as a dawn-to-dusk Sabang bandh called by the two groups evoked huge response from the locals.

Supporters of Congress Chatra Parishad and SFI, AISF et al staged protest rallies throughout Bengal and the State civil society once again attacked the Mamata Banerjee Government for unleashing a reign of terror but presaged a ‘Hitler-like fall’ for the Chief Minister ‘if the situation does not improve now.’

Krishna Prasad Jana, a BA final year student was allegedly clubbed to death by the supporters of the Trinamool Congress as he refused to submit to their dictations. He had been asked by the Trinamool goons to organise the felicitation of State Minister Soumen Mahapatra who was scheduled to visit the area to oversee flood relief operations.

Even as the local Congress MlA Manas Bhunia alleged that the police were arresting the innocent district SP Bharati Ghosh tended to parrot Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s earlier statement saying the police would “also investigate why the victim a non-collegiate student had ventured inside the institution and also whether he had gone there with an intention to create commotion.”

Bhunia, a former PCC president condemned the SP’s version saying “it is another example of how servile the police administration has become under this Government.”

Meanwhile, in unrelated incidents journalists of a popular Bengali television channel ABP Ananda were on Saturday attacked by alleged Trinamool supporters at various places in Kolkata. In the first incident, a reporter and his photographer was brutally attacked when he went on an assignment in Harimohan Ghosh College at Garden Reach.

In another incident, a senior reporter was attacked by alleged Trinamool supporter when he went to cover a specific story at Sister Nivedita Bridge in North Kolkata. All the injured scribes had been hospitalised.
