Cong hails scrapping of management quota but slams executive order

Delhi Congress has said that the AAP Government should have incorporated its decision to scrap management quota in nursery admissions in the Delhi Education Act instead of issuing it as an executive order. “We support the decision to scrap the management quota but the Kejriwal Government’s decision in this regard was just a public posturing since it was not incorporated in the amendments to the Delhi Education Act passed recently in the Assembly,” Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said.

Maken said that lt Governor Najeeb Jung had issued such an order last year, against which schools went to court and got a favourable ruling. “Since the matter was sub judice, how could Kejriwal Government take an executive decision to scrap the management quota,” he asked.

Maken also criticised the Delhi Government for its Education Credit Guarantee Scheme (student loan scheme) claiming that even after eight months of the declaration of the scheme, not even a single student has availed its benefits. “Directorate of Higher Education of Delhi Government’s reply to an RTI query about how many students have applied for the scheme since its start from June 11, 2015 till date was ‘nil’,” he said.
