Getting the go-ahead from its national leadership, Bengal Pradesh Congress on Saturday intensified the attack on former ally Trinamool Congress for transforming Bengal into “one hell of a State” in the past two years of its rule.
launching a massive broadside against the Mamata Banerjee Government on the eve of its second anniversary to power, PCC president Pradip Bhattacharya said the “Trinamool is taking Bengal towards a complete ruin from all sides be it development or law and order or one party dictatorship.”
The Congress attack comes barely a day after the Centre released more than Rs2,500 crore for Bengal’s rural development in an apparent move to keep future bridges of alliance open.
But then party sources said Bhattacharya’s diatribe had full backing of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The PCC president whose party published a booklet on the Trinamool Government’s two-year performance said, “These two years are a story of fleeting investments, falling law and order and rising dictatorship of the ruling party.”
Curiously, Bhattacharya also a Rajya Sabha MP said the fall in the development graph of the State had seen a corresponding rise in the fortunes of the Trinamool Congress as a party. “There is almost no development in the past two years but at the same time the party has prospered by leaps and bounds,” he said.
Bhattacharya blamed the State Government for favouring the bureaucrats who had oppressed the people during the left regime. “The officers who had compliance in the violence of Nandigram and Netai are today the cynosures of Trinamool eyes,” he alleged.
According to sources, the PCC had received instructions from its national leadership to make the organisation as much strong as possible in order to put the Congress in a better bargaining position in the 2014 general elections should there arise any chance of a new alliance.
“There is no question of any alliance with scamsters as you can see that we are already going alone in the panchayat elections and the Howrah parliamentary by-elections,” Bhattacharya said refusing to comment on the 2014 polls.
