To bring alive the distinctive space in live music, Red FM has brought together two very diverse art forms — independent music and stand-up comedy. Collaborating with artists like Indian Ocean and Aisi Taisi Democracy for their latest festival Musicom. The festival is being held in different cities of India like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Pune. This format will give the audience a taste of their favourite musicians combined with the humor factor provided by the comedians, the coming together of two of the most famous entertainment segments today.
Indian Ocean’s music style is often referred to as an experimental genre, fusing raga (traditional Indian tunes) with rock music, guitars and drums, sometimes using Indian folk songs. It has also been described by some music critics as Indo-rock fusion with jazz-spiced rhythms that integrates shlokas, sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution. Indian Ocean was also the first Indian music band to have made it to the cover of Rolling Stones magazine.
Talking about the change in the music scene, Rahul Ram (base guitarist) of Indian Ocean says: “The Internet has completely changed the way we discover and consume music. Social Media is a direct connect and feedback mechanism from your audience. It’s been exciting and we are glad we are still doing what we love the most.”
The Indian economy has been the butt of the joke as to say of numerous comedians in the last decade, comedians like AIB rest the pillar of their growth in the industry on the downfall of the Indian government and policies. Comedians have relied heavily on the truly popular topics of downfall in our country and twisted these topics in such a way that people listen, react and understand the ridicule that actually lies behind their actions. The comedic group Aisi Taisi Democracy (AID) relies their content on the truly necessary topics, so much so that they have chosen a name that directly translates to Screw-you democracy.
Talking about how they differ from other comedic groups, Aisi Taisi Democracy tells you that it is their content that distinguishes us from others.
The reason why these two came on the same platform is because of Rahul Ram, who links the two groups — Rahul besides being a guitarist, is a comedian as well and performs with AID.
“AIB is purely political satire as opposed to regular stand-up. Also we are not YouTubers the way AIB/EIC are our focus is largely touring with the property with a limited online release.
“Also I don’t think anybody fuses music with comedy the way we do,” Rahul says. This sentiment is carried in their content as they ridicule national leaders and call out their shortcomings in broad daylight.
