Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday underlined the need for the Government and the private sector to come together to find an affordable treatment for cancer — a disease that is a leading cause of death around the world.

Dikshit also said that India was all set to become the most attractive centre of medical tourism.

A number of Government agencies have been coordinating efforts to offer medical tourism facilities, she said, calling upon the medical fraternity, public, media and Government to put in strong efforts.

The CM was inaugurating the Park Cancer Hospital at Meera Enclave in West Delhi. Minister of Health, Government of Haryana, Rao Narender Singh; director general of Health Services, Govt of India, Dr Jagdish Prasad and the chairman of Park Group of Hospitals, Dr Ajit Gupta, were also present on the occasion.

Dikshit also rued that awareness about the disease was low and patients ignored symptons until it became too late.
