In a bid to overcome factors like fossil fuels contributing pollution in capital, Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Saturday reviewed the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC).
The broad focus of action plan in Delhi is on promoting low-carbon energy sources and technologies, promoting energy conservation and efficiency and reducing emissions from deforestation. Various civic agencies along with Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCC) took part in review meeting and submitted the report to environment minister.
The meeting was focused on the integrating climate risks into policies and planning at different levels, addressing climate impacts in various sectors and building the capacity of communities to cope with climate change related problems.
“Rising fossil fuel burning and land use changes have led to increase in quantities of greenhouse gases into the Earth’s atmosphere. These greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrogen dioxide (N2O),” Delhi government mentioned in a statement from CM office. “A rise in these gases has caused a rise in the amount of heat from the sun that is withheld in the Earth’s atmosphere and this is the heat that would normally be radiated back into space. This increase in heat has led to the greenhouse effect, resulting in climate change,” the members informed to minister.
The broad further said the action plan in Delhi is on promoting low-carbon energy sources and technologies, promoting energy conservation and efficiency and reducing emissions from deforestation.
“It also focuses on the integrating climate risks into policies and planning at different levels, addressing climate impacts in various sectors and building the capacity of communities to cope with climate change related problems,” Delhi government official release stated.
The Minister appealed to the public to lend its hand in environment conservation which will also help in combating the adverse impact of Climate Change.
