Chitrashi Rawat, who rose to fame as Komal Chautala in Chak De India, is all set to play another again — this time, Jwalamukhi Chuatala in FIR. MANJARI SINGH spoke with her. A report
A leap is something we have witnessed in many family drama. But it’s unusual to see a 20-year-leap in a comedy show, that too in a show like FIR. Kavita Kaushik who plays Chandramukhi Chautala in FIR is replaced by Chitrashi Rawat who will be coming up as Kaushik’s daughter. To be aired from March 16, 2013 at 9 pm on SAB TV, it will be a weekly show in which Rawat will be playing Jwalamukhi Chautala.
“Kavita Kaushik has been part of the show for seven years and has become a household name. But the show was becoming monotonous and Kavita is busy with Tota Weds Maina. Hence, we decided to take a leap,” Anooj Kapoor, EVP and business head, SAB TV says.
But the big question is, will Rawat who played a spunky Haryanvi girl in Chak De India, be able to create the same magic as Kaushik did with ChandramukhiIJ “When we were looking for a replacement for Jwalamukhi’s role, we could only think of Chitrashi Rawat. It was an obvious choice,” Kapoor tells you. “Since it is a format show, we have not changed anything but the lead,” Kapoor tells you.
However, a couple of characters on the show — Carry On and Malpua — have been introduced. Played by Mohit Matru, Carry On is Gopinath’s son while Nirmal Soni is Gulgele’s.
Rawat, on the other hand, says she is not on the show to copy Kaushik’s style but to make her own. “Jwalamukhi is different from Chandramukhi in some aspects. While the latter was out and out dabangg, the former has some softer shades too,” Rawat says.
While the TRP may not be very high, the show has its own fan following, some of whom are apprehensive about losing Chandramukhi. “Chandramukhi Chautala is the backbone of the show and it’s hard to imagine FIR without her. Besides, Kaushik is so well built and with her deglamorised look, she actually looks like a Haryanvi cop. This girl in the promo wears lip gloss and make-up,” Ritu Agarwal, a jewellery designer who is a regular viewer of the show, tells you.
Rawat, who has done small roles in films like Fashion and luck, will be seen on the small screen for the first time. “I had no interest in TV and saas-bahu shows are definitely not my cup of tea but when an offer for FIR came, I couldn’t say no,” Rawat states. Although her role of Komal Chautala in Chak De India is somewhat similar to Jwalamukhi Chautala, Rawat says, it still didn’t come easy to her.
“It might look like I am very much similar to my characters but I am not. I am very girly in real life and love dressing up and wearing make up all the time,” she tells you, asked how much she relates to both the characters.
And just because, she is doing TV now, doesn’t mean films have taken a back seat. “I will shoot for 20 days in a month for the show and the remaining 10 days will be reserved for films. In fact, I have just signed three films,” Rawat concludes.
