The decision of the Union Government to rename domestic airport — Shamshabad Airport — at Hyderabad after former AP Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao has added one more contentious issue to the long list of disputes between the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Away from the political wrangling, the decision has also landed the officials of the GMR Group, the company which runs Hyderabad International Airport, in a quandary. While maintaining a silence officially, the officials pointed our privately that they don’t have separate domestic and international terminals to be named after two different politicians. While the Telangana legislative Assembly has adopted a tough stance by passing a resolution against the decision, the Telugu Desam Party protested against the TRS Government.
