CCTV cameras at 309 dental colleges to keep goons at bay

Published on:

Soon, all 309 dental colleges across the country would be connected by closed-circuit television (CCTVs) cameras network to be interlinked with the Dental Council of India (DCI) to monitor their activities and ensure transparency.

The dental education body has recently directed all the dental colleges to install ‘third eyes’ at the earliest to keep anti-social elements at bay, maintain standard of education and ensure transparency. In case they fail to install the CCTVs within the stipulated time, they would face action as per the recent circular issued by Dr  Sabya achi Saha, Secretary of the DCI.

“We want all colleges to install the gadgets. They have been asked to link up the CCTVs with the internet so as to enable us its live access during college working hours from internet portal to be available on our website. The public too can access the functioning of the colleges through our website,” said a senior official from the premier dental education body.

A decision in this regard was taken last month, the official said, adding that the plan is to monitor the activities in the dental colleges in the country to maintain the standard of dental education and to ensure effective and transparent communication.

The colleges have been asked to install the CCTVs at the important public places such as OPD registration counter, area where bio-metric attendance machine is installed for dental faculty,  conservative and endodontic clinic and any one lecture hall. Giving the details of the cameras required to be fitted in the identified strategic locations, the DCI has asked the dental colleges to keep the recording saved for at least 6 months.

All the dental institutions across the country are under obligation to strictly comply with the decision of the executive committee of the DCI within 30 days from the date of issue of the order, failing which an appropriate action will be initiated against the defaulter Institute, as per the circular.

Some of the institutions like the Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society (MCES) that runs educational institutes located on Azam Campus, have already taken step to install the CCTV cameras. This has helped them tackle several incidents of thefts, fights and eve-teasing and the culprits exposed in public.
