Against the backdrop of the recent killings of Adivasis in Assam, the BJP on Saturday maintained that the State Government did not act on ‘precise’ Intelligence report given much ahead in time to effectively prevent the militant attack and charged it with a “callous” attitude.
“Two recent incidents bring the truth out that the Congress Government in Assam has not done enough in the fight against terror. Gogoi and his Government stand politically guilty of dereliction of their duty,” according to BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh.
Singh said that December 23rd, 2014 massacre in the districts of Kokrajhar and Sonitpur, which led to 75 deaths in Assam could have been avoided had the State Government acted on the Intelligence report generated by IB (Guwahati) and the Special Branch of Assam police on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) planning to carry out brutal attack on Adivasis in the two districts.
“The Intelligence information was not post facto but was given in first week of December 2014, subsequently on December 22 and then on the morning of December 23,” he said.
“The credibility of the information can be judged that it mentioned, Bhedi a commander of NDFB(S) will carry out the massacre,” the BJP leader said. He asked the Chief Minister as to what happened to a decision in 2012 to deploy security forces in the interiors of Assam to combat sudden attacks by militants and rejected as “misleading” Government’s argument that it could not act as Intelligence reached it on December 23 only.
Singh also sought to ask as why the Chief Secretary of Assam was enjoying an elephant ride in Kaziranga National Park the next morning of the incident. In another reference, he said a news channel has ‘exposed’ that an ISI agent Riajul Islam Chaudhary, who was arrested in 2007 and jumped bail, was freely roaming for the last seven years and was acting against India staying in a madrasa in Assam.
“The question to Gogoi is, why your State police slept for 7 years and a news channel had to find the ISI agent who had jumped bailIJ Also why your police did not challenge the bailIJ” wondered the BJP leader.
