The six-year-old girl who was found in a public toilet in Badarpur on Friday is recovering well at Apex Trauma Centre in AIIMS. Her condition is said to be stable after a life-saving surgery was performed. A senior doctor of the hospital said next 48 hours will be crucial.
“The six-year-old is stable and still in the ICU. After the surgery was done, she has shown signs of recovery but we have kept her under observation for next 48 hours. We can only say anything about her overall health once she comes out of this period,” said Dr MC Misra, chief, AIIMS trauma centre.
“A team of four doctors is taking care of her. She had severe injury on her neck. The brutal attack has left her bruised all over. We have decided not to give any food or even put her on liquid diet for now. She has been put on drip, he said.
There was severe damage to the anal canal and the doctors had to perform a colostomy to create space for passing stools, apart from dressing to contain infection and clean dead tissues,” he added.
The surgery performed on her had lasted for nearly three hours on Friday night. She had arrived with heavy bleeding and looked traumatised. “It was a severe attack. She had bled profusely and has been extremely traumatised. Though she is not given food and kept under medical supervision, her family has been allowed to be with her. She has also responded to them,” Misra added.
Another five-year-old rape victim admitted at AIIMS last week has got better but discharging her yet depends on some further observation, said Dr YK Gupta, spokesperson of the hospital.
“She is stable and showing recovery. Dressing on her injuries is done on a regular basis. She is able to walk around as the wounds have started to heal. She communicates to family and doctors as well,” he added.
