A 19-year-old man was allegedly attacked with an inflamable substance by three alleged eve-teasers while he resisted them from teasing his girlfriend on Khannawala road in Rohini's Bawana area on Thursday morning. However, police found contradictions in his claim and suspected that he set himself on fire, said a senior officer.

Dilip, the complainant, stated that he, along with his girlfriend, were confronted by three eve-teasers by whistling and passing lewd comments when they went to spend some time together near Shrikrishna Gaukashala. “Initially Dilip and his girlfriend ignored them but later Dilip confronted them  and told them to stop disturbance. On his objection, three left the place after threatening him dire consequence," police said.

After the alleged eve-teasers left the place, Dilip and his girlfriend thought the matter got dissolved. However, the eve-teasers came back and attacked them, said Rishi Deputy Commissioner of Rohini.

In his complaint, Dilip said one of eve-teasers held the girl and other two poured patrol on him and set him afire, said Rishi Pal.

After his girlfriend alerted the passersby, fire was doused and Dilip was rushed to GB Pant Hospital.

Police said they got a PCR call around 11 am from the hospital and recorded Dilip’s statement in the presence of doctors and Station House Officer of Bawana.

Dilip narrated the ordeal and claimed that he was overpowered and the guys poured petrol on him and set him afire.

DCP Rishi Pal said that they have not found such incident happening in the CCTV footage of the area.
