The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Delhi Police has arrested the two doctors of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital who falsified post-mortem reports.
The hospital administration had received complaints that the duo bankrolled by tweaking autopsy reports. It was also stated that for this, they would charge a hefty retainer. An investigation has been instituted. “They were caught red-handed by the ACB when they were handing over Rs 50,000 as hush money to the litigant for taking his complaint back. The accused Dr VK Jha and Dr Sudesh Kumar have convinced the plaintiff to withdraw his complaint against them in lieu of Rs 50,000. On Friday, as money exchanged hands, the medics were nabbed,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Anti-Corruption Bureau) GC Dwivedi.
A complainant had approached the hospital administration and reported about the alleged misdemeanour. In the plaint, it was also mentioned that the doctors used to demand money to tailor a post-mortem report. Instead of involving hospital staff, the doctors engaged inept people to conduct post-mortems. Following the complaint, a departmental enquiry was conducted and they were found culpable.
The two doctors had recently approached the administration to reinstate them but were told to convince the accuser into reneging on the plaint. “The complainant informed the Anti-Corruption Bureau and subsequently a raid was conducted. The doctors were later produced in court on Saturday and remanded to four days police custody,” said Dwivedi.
