BJP to hold cricket tourneys to reach out to UP youth

The Yuva Morcha of BJP has decided to hold Statewide cricket tournaments from January 11 in its efforts to bring the youth under its umbrella with an eye on the coming 2014 lok Sabha polls.

National president of the Yuva Morcha Anurag Thakur said at least one team each would be formed from all the districts thereby making a total of 80 teams. The final tournament of these teams would be held at a later date.

Talking to reporters on Saturday, Thakur said youth were particularly fond of cricket and hence it would be comparatively simpler to connect with them through the game.

“It is unfortunate that a player like Sachin Tendulkar has retired from the game,” he said. Giving details of the party’s programmes, he said the Morcha would celebrate former Prime Minister and the party’s stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25 as ‘School Chalein Hum’ campaign. Under this slogan, the party workers will visit the schools in rural areas and create awareness among the students by informing them that if a tea-seller can become a PM candidate (Narendra Modi), then why not themIJ

Thakur opposed dynastic rule in politics and said it was one of the main reasons for deterioration in the political system.
