lashing out at the Delhi Government, leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta said the Kejriwal Government, which claims to be pro-students, with its anti-student dictate, has made their future bleak. Strongly protested the dictate of the Delhi Government to raise the fee, Gupta demanded its immediate rollback.
“Decision of the Delhi Government to raise fees of lakhs of students retrospectively for last two years is completely anti-education. The matter will be raised in the Assembly by the leader of Opposition. If the Government doesn’t withdraw fee raise, the BJP will fight for it alongwith the students. The Government has suddenly raised fees for 4-5 years MBA and MBA (IB), MCA & MCA (DD), llB and other professional courses by more than 25 per cent suddenly in mid-session in 104 colleges affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University,” he said. The Pioneer has carried a story on fees hike by the Delhi Government’s GGSIP University’s colleges from retrospective date (from 2013).
Gupta added that students who were paying fees from Rs67,500 to Rs81,876 so far will now have to pay upto Rs1,20,000. This order of the Government has mentally disturbed the students of Delhi and their parents. Thousands of poor students are forced to leave the study in between due to their inability to pay enhanced fees. “Parents are surprised by this Delhi Government order. They are even unable to think as to how they should manage extra Rs40,000 to Rs81,000 by March 22, 2016 for continuance of study of their children. Parents of many students, who met the leader of Opposition said they don’t have even jewellery to sell to pay fee of their children for completion of their studies,” he added.
“As is known, there are 104 colleges affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Taking 1,000 students on an average studing in each college and every student paying on an average Rs60,000 extra fees raise, all students will have to fork about Rs6.24 crore by March 22, 2016” Gupta said.
