BJP, Cong step up campaign to win Bawana bypoll

The battle for the Bawana Assembly seat is keeping all political parties on their toes. With only a few days to go, leaders of various political parties have intensified their campaign to win the seat.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari on Saturday has started door-to-door campaign. The party organised a roadshow in various areas of the constituency such as Rohini (Shahbad) and Puth Khurd municipal wards.

Tiwari’s presence in Bawana witnessed a day after the visit of former AAP MlA Kapil Mishra who campaigned against AAP there.

During the campaigning, the BJP leader said that people of all communities in Bawana are extending their support to the BJP and our victory in this bypoll will lead to fall of Arvind Kejriwal Government.

The actor-turned-politician along with BJP candidate Ved Prakash addressed four public meetings, apart from doing a roadshow and door-to-door campaigning in Bawana, Rohini-C (Shahbad) and Puth Khurd municipal wards area of Bawana Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate Surender Kumar undertook ‘padyatras’ in several areas of the constituency and also visited door-to-door and explained party’s stand.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken hoped that the people will cast their votes in favour of the Congress and elect him with a thumping majority in the by-election. "During the three year rule of the BJP Government at the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi, the people of Delhi are fed up with price rise," Makan said.

"We will win the constituency with the massive mandate as administration in Delhi has become ineffective," adding, "The poor and the middle class have been crushed by price rise of all essential commodities and they are forced to struggle hard to earn even two square meals a day," the Congress president added further.

Notably, majority of Bawana residents are annoyed with Prakash as he switched sides during civic polls that were held in April this year. Shoppers in Ishwar Nagar, near NDPl colony said that civic issues in this part of the city are major casualty. "BJP candidate Ved Prakash has stopped focusing on the development issues. The creation and beautifications of parks have been halted," said an agitated shop owner Jagdish.

Another shop owner Narender Kumar said that due to uneven roads, water stagnation problem occurs during rainy season. "local leaders are concerned only with those roads that lead to their houses," he added while explaining how rain water accumulates near his shop and house whenever it rains.

Bawana has also become a major battleground for the politicians as a major portion of land has now become the part of land pooling scheme of the Centre.

"It has become an everyday struggle for the people to reach their homes and workplace due to poor transport connectivity. There is no metro facility in pour area. People who come from different places for work in industries face difficulties," said Vinod.

Bypoll will be held on August 23. Bawana is one of the largest constituency of Delhi.
